Members' Layouts - Hal Riekert

This small H0 DCC layout with interpretation panels is modelled around the Stevenson 'Patentee' 2-2-2 Locomotive and depicts the opening day of the line in 1835. The model was made and marketed by Trix of Nürnberg (now part of Märklin) after the fire in Nürnberg in 2005 and everybody who bought a set donated €50 to the restauration fund as part of the purchase price.

The original engine was delivered to the Nürnberg - Fürth line after having been shipped from Newcastle in 19 crates by boat to Rotterdam and on barges up the Rhine and then by mule train to Nürnberg. It was assembled by a local engineering works and the coaches were built locally. The line was opened on 7 December 1835. As part of the deal with the Ludwigsbahn, Robert Stephenson sent an Engineer (William Wilson) who ran the train until he retired in Nürnberg in 1857 when the ADLER was taken out of service. Wilson died in 1862 and was buried in Nürnberg. It is recorded that his salary was higher than any of the Ludwigsbahn's Directors.

The whole thing fits onto a 6ft (min) table. The actual layout is only 4 x 2ft. All I need is a power supply, the table and two chairs.

We are a husband and wife team at shows. So far the layout has been shown at Aberaeron, Carmarthen, Machynlleth and Rodington (near Shrewsbury) with a very good response.

The layout is available for exhibitions, please use this link for enquiries.
