Gillan and Brown is an industrial complex with private sidings serving different departments. The O scale layout is 12 feet long with the scenic area covering the entire frontage. Gillan and Brown's public debut will be at the Romiley Methodist Railway Modellers' exhibition on September 8th. Photographs will be published here after the event but for a preview see the September edition of Railway Modeller magazine.
The O scale hump shunt layout shows how gravity was used for sorting wagons in marshalling yards when Britain's railways still had a large volume of wagon-load traffic which required shunting from one train to another en-route.
Visitors at shows are encouraged to operate the points and sort the wagons as the loco slowly pushes the train over the hump.
The yard is a Tymesaver shunting puzzle where exhibition visitors of all ages are asked to place the cars at the correct spots in as few moves as possible. Scenery on the HO scale layout is confined to the backdrop as the attraction is in solving the puzzle.
