Members' Layouts - John Teal

John is a prolific modeller and the best way to keep up with his work is on our forum.

RJR Branchline - Part One

The loco depot was built first, to fit on the window bottom in the conservatory.

This was then incorporated into the Springhead Junction layout to form a multi-level continuous run railway in a custom built shed.

A Sign Of Things To Come

To negotiate the doorway John built a diorama as part of the CRM 100 Competition.

The scene is based on Glenfinnan Viaduct and was removable for outdoor photography when not carrying trains across the doorway. As such it was a forerunner of things to come, John is now concentrating on modular layouts which can be joined with sections made by other members for use at exhibitions and also used as part of his permanent home layout.

RJR Branchline - Part Two

John's shed now contains a new layout. The fixed section is a curved viaduct which connects at each end to level areas without any fixed scenery.

These flat areas are designed to hold sections from the Cheshire Railway Modellers modular layouts in either OO or On30 scale to create a variety of layouts, there being no scale specific scenery on the viaduct section.

Back In The Garden

When John joined CRM he had an On30 garden railway, this was later converted to OO then abandoned in favour of the shed layout. Coming full circle John went back outdoors again in the summer of 2009 but this time was big time.

Using scratch built locos on Playmobil radio controlled mechanisms John has created a railway which can run in virtually any weather conditions because the battery powered trains do not rely on clean track.

For the winter months though John is planning a portable G scale layout.
