Die Goettingen Sued was a terminal station on the “Die Gartetalbahn” in Lower Saxony, Germany. This 750 mm gauge line had an interchange with the standard gauge.
The real Gartetalbahn opened in 1897, and finally closed in 1959, was 35 km long, (21 ¾ Miles) While not exactly following the prototype, much “modellers licence” has been used to convey the atmosphere of the many narrow gauge lines in Saxony. The model shows the methods used to transfer standard gauge vehicles on to narrow gauge transporter wagons (“Rollwagen”) or bogies (“Rollbocke”).
There is also an ’0f’ (500mm) feeder at a factory site, giving 4 different gauges on this layout. The narrow gauge track work is Peco Oe; of necessity the mixed gauge track work is all hand built. The narrow gauge stock is a mixture of scratch built and modified Fleishmann “Magic Train” items. Standard gauge stock is a mix of kit and scratch built, the shunting locos are a scratch built köffs, other standard gauge locos are scratch or detailed R-T-R. Many of the buildings based on prototypes from the area, including one the trains pass through with, when standard gauge vans are on transporters, very little clearance. Most have detailed interiors, with cameo scenes, have a look and let your imagination do the rest!
